Reviewer Comments: What a delightful and unexpected time travel story! Gina Lamm brings us two wonderful characters who are dealing with heartbreak in their own ways and in their own time. Neither one expects to meet someone they are attracted to and certainly not to meet someone from a completely different era.

Jamie Marten is a songwriter who loves computer role-playing games. She makes no excuses for her hobbies and when she is dumped by her boyfriend, Jamie retreats into the make-believe world of role playing in order to avoid her real life issues. She even finds it difficult to write songs since the music doesn’t come to her as it used to. When Jamie’s best friend, Leah, calls her to help Pawpaw Milton empty a storage unit, Jamie reluctantly agrees to leave the house. As she works to clean out the storage unit, the large bureau in the corner catches her eye. Jamie finds herself being sucked into the bureau only to land in a bedroom in 1816.

Micah Axelby, the Earl of Dunnington, has finally found his way free of the rumors surrounding his mistress’s death. He feels ready to find a proper wife and to settle down. He thinks he has found the perfect woman to be his new bride. All his plans come to a halt when he finds a scantily clad woman in his bedroom. Micah isn’t sure what to think about this woman who speaks her mind and is unlike anyone that he has ever met before.

Micah and Jamie have to figure out how to get along since Jamie seems to be stuck in 1816. Not only do they have to worry about their attraction to each other, they also have to be careful about who can see Jamie and know about her presence in the Earl’s household. Jamie isn’t sure she can handle how different things are in the 1800’s and she just wants to get home as soon as possible.

This story was a wonderful mix of modern vocabulary and culture as well as Regency sensibilities. Ms. Lamm really highlights the differences between these two eras and had me questioning whether or not I would adjust as well as Jamie to suddenly being 200 years in the past. The story has some very humorous moments as the two cultures clash and Jamie and Micah struggle to understand each other. Adding in the element of “mishaps” with Jamie that may be caused by another person increased the depth of storytelling and suspense factor. Jamie has to figure out how to get home as well as how to stay alive.

My only complaint about the book is that it ends rather abruptly and I wanted to keep reading. I wonder if Ms. Lamm will write a sequel that will tell us what happens to Micah and Jamie (please, please, please!) I would absolutely read another book by this author.
